A style of Madeira that’s not often found nowadays, and always made in limited quantities. Bright, fresh, medium dry but pared back. Light and delicious with gorgeous fruit flavours to make a perfect aperitif, and can even be slightly chilled! There are two stories as to the origin of this style. The first is that grapes used are from high up in the mountains where the only irrigation is rainwater. The second is that barrels would often be left to the elements before loading onto ships. The casks would get saturated with rainwater which eventually seeped into the Madeira.
