The first year that this wine has become available to us!
Ratier is their best plot … south East exposure … hardly any soil (30-50cm and then straight into the Kimmeridgian bedrock!). 30% fermented in tank and the rest in Foudres (large French oak barrels).
It has incredible balance…100% Sauvignon Blanc, ripe and truly flavour packed because of the old vines and the exposure but tense and crisp and almost salty because of those soils. Properly stony and serious and grown-up … none of that tarty Sauvignon nonsense. And then, right at the finish, the most wonderfully appetising bitterness just threads through as well.
Fabulous wine, a genuine Loire classic and no rush to drink straight away. Can keep for many years.
