Founded in 1974, Avignonesi is the leading winery in the Montepulciano area of Tuscany. For this wine they’ve experimented with an ancient local winemaking method – they’ve cast aside typical steel tanks and oak barrels in favour of terracotta vessels made from Tuscan clay. The use of clay creates the purest expression of the grapes and soil, giving the wine freshness, elegance and vibrancy you wouldn’t achieve with oak or stainless steel. Medium bodied with sleek texture, flavours of red berries and cherries and a soft, spicy finish. It pairs brilliantly with tomato sauce based dishes, pasta bakes such as lasagne, pizza or a Tuscan style sausage and bean casserole.
